Arjun Mark:

“White people now tan to get darker, and dark skin people want lighter skin. We are all confused. Deep down we admire each other, but we don’t accept it. Colour bias crosses nations, ethnicities, races and socio-economic lines. The birthplace of colourism/shadeism cannot be traced to a country or geographic region, but to the hearts and minds of those who have perpetuated this preference. It impacts our thinking and our choices— whether we choose to notice it, disregard it or accept it. We now live in a color-conscious society that is promoting extreme self hate.”

Taras Taraporvala:

“In my line of work, colour blind is the ability to see past distractions. It allows me to break an image down and to focus on what is essential. Whether it is in portraiture, landscapes or other fields of photography, colour or lack there of, is an essential tool that we use to tell a story.”

Arsh Sayed:

“The first time I had the chance to work with and photograph Nidhi Sunil, a face and personality I’d been looking forward to shoot, really gave me an understanding of a good subject…a subject that would be appreciated pictorially regardless of the need of visual data. Sometimes, it’s nice to subtract the element of colour from a picture to get a sense of what really lies beneath.”
