What one should keep in mind while planning a wedding: Make it soulful.

Don’t: Be set on something. Go with the flow.

Most memorable moment: Watching my dream man and his baddest “raja-baaja” baraat live on the phone while I got ready.

What one should keep in mind while planning a wedding: Be true to yourself. It’s your day and it’s got to be all about you.

Dont: PANIC. Do not panic.

Most memorable moment: There were so many! Walking up to the temple in the pouring rain, seeing Mount Everest the next morning at dawn, watching the moon rise as we raised a toast with all our friends…

What one should keep in mind while planning a wedding: What really matters to you? Does it matter if the flowers you wanted aren’t available? If someone can’t make it last minute? Honestly, when it comes down to it I feel the most important thing is that the couple and their guests are comfortable. This mattered so much to us, we made sure that was key in all our planning. Things like perfect transport to the venue, enough water in the rooms, a 24 hour menu of items easy for the kitchen to create, the event taking place on a weekend so people didn’t have to take off too much time from work, rooming people next to their friends, tea and coffee available through the day, extra shawls and blankets because it was cold, casual dress codes for the same reason…the list goes on but you get the gist! We just wanted people to have a good time, and for them to be relaxed in order to make the wedding weekend less about appearances and more about the only thing that should matter at something like this – love and togetherness.

Don’t: Fixate. Honestly to every bride and groom to be, I say the same thing – pick your battles, none of the stress is worth it. I see too many people forgetting to enjoy their own weddings.

Married in December 2017, Nasik, India

Most memorable moment: The sangeet post the reception – it was a lot of fun!

What one should keep in mind while planning a wedding: If you want a well organised stress free wedding, start planning 8 months to a year in advance!

Don’t: Don’t overthink anything. There will always be certain aspects about the wedding that won’t be in you favour, so figure out a simple solution to it and move on.

SANJANA BATRA

Stylist

Married in December 2018, New Delhi, India

Most memorable moment: The wedding ceremony – it was an intimate affair with around 70 people (including my dog) which was followed by my fathers speech. Being surrounded by all the people we love and marrying the person you love – it was very special.

What should one keep in mind while planning a wedding: Make sure the wedding is a reflection of who you both are and keep it personal. Prioritise on what’s important for you in terms of the ceremony, decor, food, venue, etc. Have clarity on how important each of these aspects are during the planning stages and allocate your finances and time on it accordingly.

Don’t: Don’t be overwhelmed by the process. It’s the biggest party of your life and nothing more, so enjoy it! Don’t let the planning consume your life. A lot of people take a few months off just to plan the wedding – the more you overthink and fixate on stuff, the more you will stress.

SHRUTI THACKER

Digital content strategist

Married in May 2018, Mumbai, India

Most memorable moment: There are way too many moments to chose from but if I had to narrow it down it would be the mehendi function. As I made my entrance, the band Rajasthan Roots was playing one of my favourite songs by them – it was a surprise organised by my brother.

What one should keep in mind while planning a wedding: Be organised and rely on your family to help you through the decisions. It’s easy to get overwhelmed in the lead up to your wedding – my groom did not want to shop until a few weeks before the wedding, which led to a lot of silent cursing and eye-rolling. But it’s important to remember why you are getting married in the first place. I kept telling myself that as important as the wedding day is, it’s just one day. The best part about the wedding is that I get to spend the rest of my life with someone I love. So relax and enjoy things as they come.

Don’t: Treat people who are helping you badly or get stressed about having everything perfect. One advice my mother, sister and brother constantly gave me to the lead up to the wedding was to let go of my need to control every aspect and just to enjoy the wedding, which is what I ended up doing.
