currentMood X Saim Ghani: Oh, Calcutta!

Oh Calcutta by saim ghani for currentMood magazine 1
+ Saim Ghani’s ode to Kolkata, India: Calcutta, as most of us still like to call it is the City of Joy, warmth and Maa Durga. A few weeks ago, we were hit by cyclone Amphan and though it destroyed several parts of the city, it failed to destroy its spirit. We will rebuild Bengal, rebuild Calcutta!

+ Hand-pulled rickshaws
Another iconic mode of transport in the city that was introduced to India by the British Raj in the 1800’s. This has now been called out by social activists because of its manual labour-intensive nature. These hand-pulled rickshaws are now being replaced by electric ones.

+ Football
Move over Manchester United and Chelsea, Kolkata is all about Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan Sporting Club. Overlooking Victoria Memorial, the grounds are swamped with people either playing, watching the sport or lazing around and soaking in the beauty of the palace.
