Oakley Launches Kokoro Collection Designed By Meguru Yamaguchi 1 -11

Oakley collaborated with Tokyo-born, Brooklyn-based artist Meguru Yamaguchi, to design the new Kokoro collection that went live yesterday. “Kokoro”, is a Japanese word that means “heart, mind and spirit”. The collection aims to unify athletes and create a sense of belonging and community. Featuring the Sutro, Frogskins, Radar EV Path, Flak 2.0 XL, EVZero™Blades, Flight Jacket and Jawbreaker, these pieces are equipped with Oakley’s Prizm Lens Technology that enhances colour and contrast and enables the wearer to see more details.

Oakley was drawn by Yamaguchi’s unique style of creating “sculptural paintings”. He met with the brands designers and athletes to understand the unifying nuances sport that go into developing a product. “I was very excited when Oakley reached out to collaborate, as I’ve been a fan of the brand since my high school days,” said Meguru. “When I connected with the athletes as part of the discovery phase, I was moved by their united passion for sport. Designing a collection that was emblematic of this shared passion was core to my process and I’m thrilled with the results.” Each product is unique and replicates Yamaguchi’s signature brushstrokes.

Celebrating the launch of the Kokoro collection, Oakley pledged $200,000 USD to support the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for the World Health Organisation (WHO). “The Kokoro Collection celebrates how a universal love of sport can unify our community” said Ben Goss, Oakley Global Marketing Director. “We’re proud to offer our support to the World Health Organisation which is addressing the global pandemic with passion and precision.”
